How a 6-team hockey round robin works
Every team plays each of the other 5 teams once, which is 15 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 5 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 30 games over 10 rounds.
Round 1 pairings
The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 6 teams seeded 1–6, round 1 is: 1 v 6, 5 v 2, 3 v 4. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.
How long does it take?
Using 80-minute hockey slots, 15 games need about 20 hours on one rink, 10 hours on two, or 5 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 5 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and rinks, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.
Hockey rules that affect the schedule
Adult hockey leagues play three 15–20 minute periods in a 75–90 minute ice slot; ice time is expensive, so unused slots are the main cost to avoid.
Tie-breakers: Points, then wins, then head-to-head, then goal differential.
Organizer tip: Late ice (10pm+) is unpopular: enter only the slots you actually have so the schedule never invents an extra one.
