How a 5-team hockey round robin works
Every team plays each of the other 4 teams once, which is 10 games in total. With an odd number of teams one team sits out each round, so the season needs 5 rounds and every team has exactly one bye. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 20 games over 10 rounds.
Round 1 pairings
The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 5 teams seeded 1–5, round 1 is: 5 v 2, 3 v 4 (bye: team 1). Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.
How long does it take?
Using 80-minute hockey slots, 10 games need about 13.3 hours on one rink, 6.7 hours on two, or 3.3 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 5 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and rinks, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.
Hockey rules that affect the schedule
Adult hockey leagues play three 15–20 minute periods in a 75–90 minute ice slot; ice time is expensive, so unused slots are the main cost to avoid.
Tie-breakers: Points, then wins, then head-to-head, then goal differential.
Organizer tip: Late ice (10pm+) is unpopular: enter only the slots you actually have so the schedule never invents an extra one.
