How a 10-team chess round robin works

Every team plays each of the other 9 teams once, which is 45 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 9 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 90 games over 18 rounds.

Round 1 pairings

The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 10 teams seeded 1–10, round 1 is: 1 v 10, 9 v 2, 3 v 8, 7 v 4, 5 v 6. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.

How long does it take?

Using 60-minute chess slots, 45 games need about 45 hours on one board, 22.5 hours on two, or 11.3 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 9 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and boards, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.

Chess rules that affect the schedule

Club round robins use 1 point for a win and ½ for a draw. Colors (white/black) alternate — the home/away column in the schedule can be read as white/black.

Tie-breakers: Sonneborn-Berger, then direct encounter, then number of wins.

Organizer tip: Read "home" as white. The generator balances home games so colors are as even as possible.
