How a 6-team chess round robin works

Every team plays each of the other 5 teams once, which is 15 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 5 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 30 games over 10 rounds.

Round 1 pairings

The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 6 teams seeded 1–6, round 1 is: 1 v 6, 5 v 2, 3 v 4. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.

How long does it take?

Using 60-minute chess slots, 15 games need about 15 hours on one board, 7.5 hours on two, or 3.8 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 5 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and boards, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.

Chess rules that affect the schedule

Club round robins use 1 point for a win and ½ for a draw. Colors (white/black) alternate — the home/away column in the schedule can be read as white/black.

Tie-breakers: Sonneborn-Berger, then direct encounter, then number of wins.

Organizer tip: Read "home" as white. The generator balances home games so colors are as even as possible.
