How a 10-team esports round robin works

Every team plays each of the other 9 teams once, which is 45 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 9 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 90 games over 18 rounds.

Round 1 pairings

The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 10 teams seeded 1–10, round 1 is: 1 v 10, 9 v 2, 3 v 8, 7 v 4, 5 v 6. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.

How long does it take?

Using 45-minute esports slots, 45 games need about 33.8 hours on one station, 16.9 hours on two, or 8.4 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 9 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and stations, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.

Esports rules that affect the schedule

Online tournaments commonly run best-of-1 group stages and best-of-3 playoffs. Double elimination is the community standard for fighting games and many shooters; single elimination for one-day opens.

Tie-breakers: Match wins, then map/game differential, then head-to-head, then seeding.

Organizer tip: Use the double-elimination format with the bracket reset enabled — players expect a grand final reset if the losers-bracket team wins.
