How a 16-team esports round robin works

Every team plays each of the other 15 teams once, which is 120 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 15 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 240 games over 30 rounds.

Round 1 pairings

The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 16 teams seeded 1–16, round 1 is: 1 v 16, 15 v 2, 3 v 14, 13 v 4, 5 v 12, 11 v 6, 7 v 10, 9 v 8. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.

How long does it take?

Using 45-minute esports slots, 120 games need about 90 hours on one station, 45 hours on two, or 22.5 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 15 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and stations, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.

Esports rules that affect the schedule

Online tournaments commonly run best-of-1 group stages and best-of-3 playoffs. Double elimination is the community standard for fighting games and many shooters; single elimination for one-day opens.

Tie-breakers: Match wins, then map/game differential, then head-to-head, then seeding.

Organizer tip: Use the double-elimination format with the bracket reset enabled — players expect a grand final reset if the losers-bracket team wins.
