How a 5-team esports round robin works
Every team plays each of the other 4 teams once, which is 10 games in total. With an odd number of teams one team sits out each round, so the season needs 5 rounds and every team has exactly one bye. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 20 games over 10 rounds.
Round 1 pairings
The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 5 teams seeded 1–5, round 1 is: 5 v 2, 3 v 4 (bye: team 1). Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.
How long does it take?
Using 45-minute esports slots, 10 games need about 7.5 hours on one station, 3.8 hours on two, or 1.9 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 5 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and stations, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.
Esports rules that affect the schedule
Online tournaments commonly run best-of-1 group stages and best-of-3 playoffs. Double elimination is the community standard for fighting games and many shooters; single elimination for one-day opens.
Tie-breakers: Match wins, then map/game differential, then head-to-head, then seeding.
Organizer tip: Use the double-elimination format with the bracket reset enabled — players expect a grand final reset if the losers-bracket team wins.
