How the 12-team hockey double elimination bracket is built
12 is not a power of two, so the bracket is padded to 16 slots and the top 4 seeds skip round one with a bye. Everyone gets two lives: losers from the winners bracket drop into a 6-round losers bracket. The grand final is 22 games in, and if the losers-bracket finalist wins it a reset game is played, for 23 games in total.
First-round matchups
Standard seeding puts the strongest seed against the weakest: 8 v 9, 5 v 12, 7 v 10, 6 v 11. Seeds 1–4 wait for round two. List your teams strongest-first in the generator and the seeding is applied automatically.
How long does it take?
With 80-minute games, 23 games take about 30.7 hours on one rink and 15.3 hours on two — but rounds can't overlap, so the last rounds always run one game at a time. Pro's scheduler enforces that ordering when it assigns dates, start times and rinks.
Hockey rules that affect the schedule
Adult hockey leagues play three 15–20 minute periods in a 75–90 minute ice slot; ice time is expensive, so unused slots are the main cost to avoid.
Tie-breakers: Points, then wins, then head-to-head, then goal differential.
Organizer tip: Late ice (10pm+) is unpopular: enter only the slots you actually have so the schedule never invents an extra one.
