How the 16-team hockey double elimination bracket is built

16 is a power of two, so the bracket is full and nobody gets a bye. Everyone gets two lives: losers from the winners bracket drop into a 6-round losers bracket. The grand final is 30 games in, and if the losers-bracket finalist wins it a reset game is played, for 31 games in total.

First-round matchups

Standard seeding puts the strongest seed against the weakest: 1 v 16, 8 v 9, 4 v 13, 5 v 12, 2 v 15, 7 v 10, 3 v 14, 6 v 11. List your teams strongest-first in the generator and the seeding is applied automatically.

How long does it take?

With 80-minute games, 31 games take about 41.3 hours on one rink and 20.7 hours on two — but rounds can't overlap, so the last rounds always run one game at a time. Pro's scheduler enforces that ordering when it assigns dates, start times and rinks.

Hockey rules that affect the schedule

Adult hockey leagues play three 15–20 minute periods in a 75–90 minute ice slot; ice time is expensive, so unused slots are the main cost to avoid.

Tie-breakers: Points, then wins, then head-to-head, then goal differential.

Organizer tip: Late ice (10pm+) is unpopular: enter only the slots you actually have so the schedule never invents an extra one.
