How a 8-team softball round robin works
Every team plays each of the other 7 teams once, which is 28 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 7 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 56 games over 14 rounds.
Round 1 pairings
The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 8 teams seeded 1–8, round 1 is: 1 v 8, 7 v 2, 3 v 6, 5 v 4. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.
How long does it take?
Using 75-minute softball slots, 28 games need about 35 hours on one diamond, 17.5 hours on two, or 8.8 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 7 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and diamonds, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.
Softball rules that affect the schedule
Slow-pitch softball is typically 7 innings or a 60–65 minute time limit with a mercy rule (e.g. 10 runs after 5 innings). Weeknight leagues stack 2–3 games per diamond.
Tie-breakers: Head-to-head, then runs allowed (not runs scored, to discourage running up scores), then coin flip.
Organizer tip: Double-headers are popular: set the per-team daily limit to 2 with 0 minutes rest if teams play back-to-back on the same diamond.
