How a 8-team volleyball round robin works

Every team plays each of the other 7 teams once, which is 28 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 7 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 56 games over 14 rounds.

Round 1 pairings

The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 8 teams seeded 1–8, round 1 is: 1 v 8, 7 v 2, 3 v 6, 5 v 4. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.

How long does it take?

Using 60-minute volleyball slots, 28 games need about 28 hours on one court, 14 hours on two, or 7 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 7 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and courts, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.

Volleyball rules that affect the schedule

League volleyball is best-of-3 or best-of-5 sets to 25 (15 in the deciding set). Matches cannot end in a tie, and many leagues also track set ratio.

Tie-breakers: Match wins, then set ratio (sets won ÷ sets lost), then point ratio, then head-to-head.

Organizer tip: With multiple courts in one gym, stagger start times by 15 minutes so warm-ups do not collide.
