How a 16-team softball round robin works
Every team plays each of the other 15 teams once, which is 120 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 15 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 240 games over 30 rounds.
Round 1 pairings
The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 16 teams seeded 1–16, round 1 is: 1 v 16, 15 v 2, 3 v 14, 13 v 4, 5 v 12, 11 v 6, 7 v 10, 9 v 8. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.
How long does it take?
Using 75-minute softball slots, 120 games need about 150 hours on one diamond, 75 hours on two, or 37.5 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 15 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and diamonds, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.
Softball rules that affect the schedule
Slow-pitch softball is typically 7 innings or a 60–65 minute time limit with a mercy rule (e.g. 10 runs after 5 innings). Weeknight leagues stack 2–3 games per diamond.
Tie-breakers: Head-to-head, then runs allowed (not runs scored, to discourage running up scores), then coin flip.
Organizer tip: Double-headers are popular: set the per-team daily limit to 2 with 0 minutes rest if teams play back-to-back on the same diamond.
