How the 16-team chess double elimination bracket is built

16 is a power of two, so the bracket is full and nobody gets a bye. Everyone gets two lives: losers from the winners bracket drop into a 6-round losers bracket. The grand final is 30 games in, and if the losers-bracket finalist wins it a reset game is played, for 31 games in total.

First-round matchups

Standard seeding puts the strongest seed against the weakest: 1 v 16, 8 v 9, 4 v 13, 5 v 12, 2 v 15, 7 v 10, 3 v 14, 6 v 11. List your teams strongest-first in the generator and the seeding is applied automatically.

How long does it take?

With 60-minute games, 31 games take about 31 hours on one board and 15.5 hours on two — but rounds can't overlap, so the last rounds always run one game at a time. Pro's scheduler enforces that ordering when it assigns dates, start times and boards.

Chess rules that affect the schedule

Club round robins use 1 point for a win and ½ for a draw. Colors (white/black) alternate — the home/away column in the schedule can be read as white/black.

Tie-breakers: Sonneborn-Berger, then direct encounter, then number of wins.

Organizer tip: Read "home" as white. The generator balances home games so colors are as even as possible.
