How a 16-team tennis round robin works
Every team plays each of the other 15 teams once, which is 120 games in total. With an even number of teams every team plays in every round, so the whole schedule fits in 15 rounds with no byes. A double round robin (home and away) doubles that to 240 games over 30 rounds.
Round 1 pairings
The generator uses the circle method, which guarantees each pair meets exactly once. For 16 teams seeded 1–16, round 1 is: 1 v 16, 15 v 2, 3 v 14, 13 v 4, 5 v 12, 11 v 6, 7 v 10, 9 v 8. Home and away alternate so no team is stuck with all away games.
How long does it take?
Using 90-minute tennis slots, 120 games need about 180 hours on one court, 90 hours on two, or 45 hours on four. A weekly league playing one round per week runs 15 weeks. Pro's scheduler turns those numbers into actual dates, start times and courts, honouring rest gaps and games-per-day limits.
Tennis rules that affect the schedule
Club tennis ladders and round robins typically play one pro set (first to 8) or a short set with a tiebreak at 6–6 to keep matches inside a 60–90 minute court booking.
Tie-breakers: Match wins, then set differential, then game differential, then head-to-head.
Organizer tip: For knockout draws, seed by rating so the top players do not meet in round one.
